Helen: And I'm Helen.
Neil: Today we're going to look at words and phrases that have recently become part of the English language.
Neil: It's very important to stay up-to-date2 with English as new words and expressions enter the language all the time.
Helen: Neil,
Neil: Today's word is frag – F.R.A.G. – frag.
Helen: Frag. Frag
Neil: Well, frag is an expression from computer games. It means to kill your opponent3.
Neil: Yes, you might say, "I got to level 14 in Doom4, but I kept getting fragged."
Helen:
Neil: That's right. Fragged means killed when playing a computer game.
Insert
A: Come on! I'm going to get you this time!
B: No way! I'm going to frag you first!
Neil: Do you play computer games?
Helen: Sometimes. And you?
Neil: I sometimes play with my brother, but he's much better than me and always frags me!
Helen: Really?
Neil: Yes. Last time we played a game called Quake. You have to go around shooting the other players. He fragged me 12 times and I didn't frag him once!
Helen: Oh dear!
Neil: Yes – I'm not very good at computer games.
Helen: So you keep getting fragged?
Neil: Yes, but luckily it's only a game!
And we have to finish here?
Neil: Yes, we do. You've been listening to Real English from BBC Learning English. Join us again soon for more up-to-the-minute Real English. Bye.
Helen: See you next time.
